Featuring nine targeted exercises, the test benchmarks grip, core, balance, endurance, and cardio – tailored for women approaching 50 and beyond.

Menopace, the UK’s No.1 and most trusted menopause supplement brand*, for women before, during and after menopause for comprehensive daily nutritional support.

Sports broadcaster, former international gymnast, and Menopace Ambassador, Gabby Logan an advocate for fitness during menopause, and menopause strength training expert, Annie Murray, have launched The Menopace Strength Test - a set of practical benchmarks that can be done at home, or in the gym, to help midlife women assess and improve strength, balance, and endurance.

The Menopace Strength Test includes nine targeted exercises that evaluate key areas of physical health including grip, strength, endurance, stability and aerobic fitness in different body areas. Tracking these markers help women understand how their bodies are adapting to the period of change that menopause brings.

Designed to be accessible whether at home or in the gym, the tests can easily slot into day-to-day life and aim to help women understand where their bodies are physically - and how to build strength safely and effectively.

For women in their 40s and 50s and beyond, building a consistent, balanced exercise routine - with strength, mobility, and cardio - is one of the most powerful ways to support long-term health, independence, and mental health during menopause journey.

Gabby Logan comments:It’s so important for women to feel empowered during menopause and prioritise health and wellbeing to embrace this new chapter with confidence. Strength training has been a game-changer for me, and for building my confidence. It’s not just about physical fitness, it’s about reclaiming energy, resilience, and self-belief. I encourage all women approaching and going through the menopause to try The Menopace Strength test for themselves, it gives women practical tools to understand where they are and how to build strength that supports both body and mind.”

Menopause strength expert, Annie Murray adds: “Strength and fitness training is incredibly beneficial for women, especially if they are approaching and going through menopause. As oestrogen levels decline, it can lead to reduced muscle and bone mass, which are important for long term health. Strength training helps counteract these changes by stimulating bone and muscle. Beyond that, it supports weight management, heart health, mental wellbeing, and overall vitality. It’s one of the most powerful tools women can use to feel strong, confident, and in control during this life stage and in years to come.”

Melissa Cohen Head of Nutrition, Vitabiotics, said: “The Menopace Strength Test empowers women to better understand how their bodies are changing during their menopause journey, and gives them practical tools to assess and build physical strength at a time when their wellbeing can require some extra support.

Menopace is the UK’s Number 1 and most trusted menopause supplement brand*. It provides a comprehensive range of nutrients including vitamin B6, which contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity; vitamin B1 which contributes to the normal function of the heart, magnesium which contributes to normal muscle function and vitamin D to support normal bone health.

Nutrition and strength training is a powerful combination to support health and vitality in this life stage.”

TAKE THE MENOPAUSE STRENGTH TEST

The Menopace Strength Test. Strength & Functional Fitness Tests for Women in Their 50s

Below includes guidance for how those taking part in the strength test can track their progress:

The best way to record the test results

  • Those taking part should note the weight carried and distance covered (e.g. 30 - 40m), and whether it was unbroken.

The best way to track progress and work towards strength goals (e.g., at home or in the gym)

  • To progress, those taking part should increase weight, extending distance/time
  • At home: use dumbbells, kettlebells, or evenly loaded bags/backpacks (the weights should be as close to equal as possible in each hand).
  • In the gym: use heavy dumbbells, kettlebells, or a trap bar (hex bar), which give a similar effect.

How best to score results

Scoring results:

  • Below 60% bodyweight = Needs improvement
  • 60% = Baseline
  • 75% = Advanced
  • 75% = Exceptional

When is best to train and when to recheck progress

  • Re-test every 6 - 8 weeks to measure improvements consistently.
